She is said to be the daughter of James Chase and Miriam Challis, per family trees at Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org, consistent with the fact that Mariam Chase (listed as "mother" on the census) was living with Julia and her husband James in Holland in 1855.

Julia Ann wrote her will on 19 Nov 1891, calling herself Juliann Kimball of Holland, New York, widow of James Kimball. The will was approved on 22 Oct 1894. In it she left bequests to her oldest daughter, Philena Russell, widow of James Russel; Jimey D. Kimball; Ellen Lucretia Kimball, Morris George Kimball; and to her daugher, Ester Lucinda Whaley, the widow of Dexter Whaley. She appointed Frank Whaley executor. The probate records contain guardianships for Jimmie D. Kimball, Ellen Lucretia Kimball, and Morris George Kimball.¹

Research Notes:

The 1865 New York state census states that Juliann Kimball was married once (to James Kimball) and had two children. Her 1891 will identifies the two children: Philena Russell, widow of James Russell, and Esther Lucinda Whaley. Per census records, Philena was born about 1834 in New York (before Julia and James were married), and Esther Lucinda was born 1844 (after Julia and James were married). If these records are correct, then Philena was born out of wedlock. This is consistent with the fact that Philena's daughter, Ida May (Russell) Savage calls her mother Philena Chase in her (Ida's) 1924 Wyoming County, New York, record of marriage to Luther M. Charles. Chase is Juliann's maiden name.

Jane Kimball of Arcade, Wyoming County, New York, was identified as an heir and daughter of Elihu Graves in his will, dated 4 June 1872, and in the petition of Almira Groves (his widow) and James Crawford (his son-in-law), co-executors of his estate, which identified Jane as a resident of Arcade.¹

The will also identified his daughter, Olive Crawford, as an heir. Olive was the wife of James Crawford, co-executor. She died in 1875, per gravestone in Pine Hill Cemetery, Gowanda, Erie County, New York, after which James Crawford married Jane Kimball. The two were living together in Arcade in 1880, per census.
